Fire Extinguisher Sales and installation
As a full service fire safety company, Pye Barker provides a myriad of services to sell, help install and inspect a wide array of fire extinguishers. Not only are our customers able to purchase the correct fire extinguisher for their business or home, but with Pye Barker fire extinguisher services, they can have these units installed, and inspected on a regular basis to ensure that if they are needed, they are available and most importantly, operational. Our branches are also equipped to recharge fire extinguishers. This service is available at our locations, and via our mobile recharging service.
Inspection Services
Our service technicians will test and inspect your equipment and provide you with all the proper reports and/or certifications based on N.F.P.A to keep you in good standing with the local authorities and your insurance company. Mobile trucks provide on site service for most service needs of portable fire extinguishers. Mobile service trucks eliminate pick-up and delivery charges. DHEC certified general tester with modern test equipment to efficiently test all types of backflow assemblies. In addition to testing all appropriate paperwork will be submitted to the local authority in your area as required.
Hydrostatic Testing Service
Pye Barker locations also offer hydrostatic testing services. Hydrostatic testing is a crucial service which is used to ensure the safety of all gas cylinders and fire extinguishers. Under normal operating pressures, cylinders can become 'weaker'. This weakness in the cylinder body can occur over the life of the cylinder. Hydrostatic testing is a test in which the thickness of the cylinder is precisely measured to ensure that its serviceability. Restaurant Systems
Commercial cooking produces "grease laden vapors." That is why it is critical that commercial kitchens have fire suppression systems. These specialized systems require inspection by law at least semiannually. Don't jeopardize the safety of your staff by letting just anyone inspect your fire suppression equipment. Our technicians are factory trained, licensed and insured. We work hand in hand with state agencies, insurance companies and owners of fine restaurants in North Carolina, Florida and Georgia. Our GPS guided mobile service fleet is on call twenty-four hours a day for any emergencies you might encounter.
Fusible links are the suppression system's first line of defense. The fusible links recognize the heat put off by a fire and discharge the system automatically the moment a fire is detected. It is important that you change the fuse links each time your system is inspected - or as recommended by the manufacturer.
Restaurant systems detect heat, not smoke. The fusible links in the hood melt when exposed to heat. The agent cylinder discharges by utilizing nitrogen or CO2 as an expellant gas. The liquid chemical then passes through the system piping and onto the fire. The system also closes the heat source by means of a gas valve and micro switch. The chemical saponifies (turns grease to soap). The system can be discharged automatically through the fuse links or by means of a manual pull station.

Exit and Emergency Lighting
Another very important aspect of fire safety is exit and emergency lighting service. Pyre Barker has extensive experience in this area, and we are well versed in the rules and regulations that are involved with these systems. The National Fire Protection Associations Life Safety Code(NFPA 101) requires the installation and maintenance of emergency lighting under section 5-8 "illumination of means of egress" and the installation of exit signs under section 5-10 "Marking means of egress". OSHA also requires emergency lighting under section 1910.36 of the occupational safety and health act.
Given these stringent government requirements, it is incumbent on every business to procure the safest and most reliable systems that are available. Marine Vessels
An offshore fire is more than frightening. It's life-threatening. The good news: Fires on boats are rare thanks to improved quality of vessel manufacture and technology. 95% of new boats over 20 feet come with automatic fire suppression systems. The not-so-good news is that an estimated 99% of boat owners with systems do not have their systems serviced annually. That means 99 systems out of 100 are out of date, and potentially non-functional. Don't risk the lives of your crew by overlooking this vital service. Most insurers offer discounts for properly maintained fire equipment.
We have convenient dockside service at no extra charge. We provide annual dockside inspections of fixed fire suppression systems. While we are aboard, we check your hand held fire extinguishers and make certain they are properly mounted.
